アメリカ内科学会フェロー（FACP）について

はじめに

米国内科学会（ACP）は1915年創立の世界最大の内科専門医の学会である米国内科専門医会（ACP）と、1956年に設立された内科医の学会、米国内科学会（ASIM）が1998年に合併してできた学会（ACP-ASIM）で2003年春に名称をACPに統一しました。 2024年11月現在、全世界の会員数16万1千人を擁し、世界172か国に会員を有する国際的な内科学会です。当学会の使命は最高水準の専門的な内科診療技術を育成し、医療の質を高め、医療をより効果的にする事にあります。東京大学名誉教授の黒川清先生が日本内科学会の理事長を務められた際にACP側と折衝され、日本の総合内科専門医はABIMの試験合格者と同等の高いレベルを有する内科医であるいう趣旨の提案をされ認められました。日本の総合内科専門医の資格を有し書類審査でACPの会員になることができます。私は2000年にACP入会を許され、2001年、日本人で40番目にフェローという称号の上級会員（FACP）になりました。ACP日本支部は2003年に設立され現在、会員数約1,200名（そのうちFACP350人）で国際支部の中では、最も活発な活動をしている支部の１つです。
